Hypertext Markup Language: What is HTML?
A Language to represent a document graphically on the Web
Special embedded commands called tags
Tags define HOW and WHAT the page will look like when opened by a Browser
HTML files are ASCII format and can be opened as TEXT, with extension .htm or .html
Images are stored separately as GIF files
Allows most basic document formatting
HTML files can be used to link to and run applets
